Karibuni – the Breakfast and After School Club at St James
I am Ruth Haynes, the Karibuni Manager and I am writing to introduce myself and tell you a little more about the club.
I have a long and varied experience of working with children in school, pre-school and playgroups, as a child minder, and leading church children’s and youth clubs. I left Charlton Primary School in 2013 after 6 years as a Teaching Assistant specifically to gain the qualifications needed to run my own Breakfast and After School Club. I am really excited that the opportunity has now arisen at St James.
So that we can start right away, the club will initially be managed by the school. By September 2016 we aim to transition to an independent entity working closely with the school, once Ofsted registration as a childcare provider is complete. We then expect to be able to offer all day care on Inset days and during some school holidays.
Ms Geraghty and Mr Navarro will be helping run the club.
Karibuni aims to provide a safe, secure and relaxed environment, offering a range of activities to reflect the interests of the children in our care. We will follow Playwork Principles, so the children are free to choose activities and resources as they wish.
Morning sessions will run in the hall from 7.45-8.45am and will include breakfast with a choice of toast and spreads, cereals, yoghurt and fruit. After they have eaten, children will have a choice of board games and table top activities. Younger children will be accompanied to their classes in time for registration. Cost £4.
Afternoon sessions will run from 3.20pm-6.00pm. The first hour will be outdoor play when the weather allows. After that there will be a choice of board games, table top activities, arts & crafts and group games in the hall. Children will have the opportunity to do homework if they choose. Healthy snacks will be available. Cost £10.
If you want your child to attend any sessions, you need to complete a registration form.
To be sure of a place for your child, you also need to complete a monthly booking form. If you do, you will receive an invoice at the beginning of each month which needs to be paid within two weeks. We will take ad-hoc bookings, space permitting, which need to be paid for on the day. We prefer payment by bank transfer, but you can also pay by cheque or cash or employer childcare vouchers (please let us know which voucher scheme we need to register with).
You can obtain registration and booking forms by clicking on the links at the bottom of this page.
If you have any questions, please get in touch.
PS Karibuni is a Swahili word best translated as all are welcome.
