On Saturday 5th November Mrs Peacock, Mrs Richards and three crazy parents (and a few friends) took part in the Winter Wolf Run.
This is a 10k trail run with over 20 obstacles. Starting with an immediate wade through some water we were quickly faced with a breathe takingly cold lake swim and the next 2 hours and 6 miles saw us clambering over high cargo nets, crawling through tunnels, staggering through waste deep mud and generally being pushed to our limits.
What was the money being raised for?
As an expanding primary school, at St James we want to develop our existing library and corridor like staff room, into an outstanding light-filled learning and resource area. We want to be able to divide the area into sections where the children can work independently or in a small group with an adult, use computers to complete research tasks or simply curl up and enjoy a good book.
We would like to remove the current dated suspended ceiling to reveal the beams and vaulted ceiling of the original Victorian building. Immediately the room would become a more exciting and stimulating environment that the children want to spend time in and use as much as possible.
As we grow to a one form entry school, we need to develop our learning environment into one ready to deliver a curriculum for the current day with books and resources that are up to date and attractively displayed.
All of this does not come without considerable cost; funding is required for development of the room, furniture, books and IT equipment, and we are looking to secure grants and awards in order for us to be able to realise our vision.
Sponsorship from the Wolf Run is just one way that we are raising funds towards developing our library. If you have any other fundraising ideas or are in a position to help sponsor the re-development, please contact the school.
