The final sporting event of the year took place this week. A group of year 6 children played in the Vale Ultimate Frisbee competition.

At the start of the morning, some players were struggling with the rules and indeed catching a Frisbee, which can be quite tricky.

Our first match was amazing and we won 17-0 (the highest score ever seen in a competition). Unfortunately, we peaked too soon and in out remaining matches we drew or lost, but all game were close fought. At the end of the morning we were placed 3rd.

A huge well done to all those who played and to Mr and Mrs Humphries, without whom we would not have been able to get to the event.

What an amazing turn out for the summer fete last week. The whole afternoon was an outstanding success from the sun shining for us to be pelted with wet sponges!!

Many thanks the Friends of St James who worked so hard to make this event the success it was. Overall an incredible £2820 was raised for the school. This money is used to subsidise school trips and also to provide other opportunities for the children at St James.

The Friends of St James are always looking for volunteers to help run events, if you are able to spare some time please do contact the office.

As I write this newsletter, years 4,5 and 6 are busy getting ready for their end of year play ‘The X Factory’. At the dress rehearsal yesterday, I was blown away by the confidence of some of the children being able to sing dance and act to such a big audience.

If you have tickets to see the play I’m sure you will be impressed too.

As we come to the end of yet another amazingly busy year at St James, I would like to wish all of you a very happy and safe summer holiday and we look forward to seeing people back on Wednesday 4th September.

I would like to take this opportunity to wish all of our leavers the best for the future, where ever they may be heading.

A massive thank you to ‘Handy Guy’ for very kindly mending the fence and playtime shed. Excellent job.

Don’t forget you can book holiday club with childcare with TheClub@St James.

There are still spaces available and if you are interested please contact Katherine on theclub@hanneyce.vale- to book your child’s place

From September the cost of school lunches will be increasing to £2.50 a day. Please remember this when you are paying via parentmail.

Don’t forget the Rowling class fab finish on Tuesday morning, straight after drop off. Both year 4 and year 5 have been learning poems and would like to treat you to some choral speaking.
