Welcome to Donaldson Class – Nursery
We provide 18 Nursery places per session.
Nursery admissions are dealt with by St James CE Primary school. We follow Oxfordshire County Council’s guidelines. For further information please see the Admissions Policy or contact the school office. We are here to answer any queries you might have, so please do get in touch.

In the Nursery class, sessions are offered to two-year-olds in the morning sessions (priority is given to two-year-olds eligible for funding.)
At St James CE Primary School, we are able to offer 15 hours of universal entitlement.
Working parents may be entitled to 30 hours free childcare per week. The remaining hours can be made up using another provider; you will need to tell us if you will be doing this and which other setting you will be using. Please note we do not offer 30 hour funded places at this point in time. More information on the 30 hour free childcare entitlement is available at:
Additional sessions may be available at St James on a casual termly basis. These will be divided equally between parents eligible for 15 hours and will be allocated according to the admissions criteria. Children become eligible for a place in Donaldson class from 2 ½ years of age.
- Under 3’s sessions – 9.00am – 12pm
- Over 3’s sessions – 9am-12pm or 9am-3pm
- We can also offer an extra 15 minutes at the end of the day for an additional charge, to be in line with the end time for the rest of the school.
Parents can add their child’s name to our Nursery waiting list at any time from birth. Application forms are available from the school office or from the links below:
We promote healthy eating at St James and this begins in Donaldson Class. We ask that you help us achieve this by providing your child with a nutritious named snack to be eaten at 10.30am daily with milk that we provide.
This snack will need to consist of a fruit or vegetable cut up if required.
Grapes will need to be cut into quarters.
Children who are in school for a full day will need to be provided with a packed lunch.
- Sandwich/ wrap/ pasta
- Chopped vegetables and dip
- Cereal bar
Your child will be assigned a key person, but as we are a small setting we all get to know each other very well. Every child has an electronic learning journey (Tapestry) where we can record all their developmental steps including the fabulous work they produce. Parents can also add to their child’s Tapestry page, so that we can all share the journey.
