Courageous Advocacy
Our value of courage supports the children to push themselves out of their comfort zones, to aspire to to be the best they can be and to embrace mistakes as learning opportunities. The pupils talk passionately about looking after the environment, for example when the Year 3s learnt about palm oil they went home and made parents change what they bought. The Year 5 children present a protest to the school, linked to their learning in Geography, about building a reservoir that would damage local wildlife and people's homes.
Pupils are encouraged to have a voice in the school for example by having a School Council. Children also care about the school environment and often organise litter-picks on the field at lunchtimes.
Pupil leadership is actively encouraged with responsibilities such as School Council, Librarians, sports leaders and a buddy system set up between Year 6 pupils and Reception support this. This will continue to be developed as the school moves towards a more child led approach.
